What are the technical requirements for teledermatology video meetings?

At Teledermatologist we strive to make our system as seamless & accessible as possible. But in order to reliably access our video conferencing technology your system will need to be compatible. More often than not, old and out of date systems will have issues connecting with our teleconferencing software.

We require the following technical requirements for your to join in our video meeting:

  • Well lit room.

  • Web camera or camera device connected to your computer & device drivers are properly installed.

  • Microphone device connected to your computer & device drivers are properly installed.

  • Speakers or listening device connected to your computer.

  • Fast & reliable Australian internet connection.

    • Minimum upload speed of 3.5 Mbps for stable HD video.

    • Litmus test, can you watch a Youtube video without much buffering?

  • An up to date Chrome web browser

Teleconferencing on Desktop or Laptops devices

Our video meeting software will run on almost all up to date Windows, Apple or Linux desktop & laptop devices. In fact, your operating system won’t matter as much as the web browser that you have installed on your device. In order to have maximum compatibility with our video meeting software, we recommend using a Google Chrome web browser.

Please also ensure that your Operating Systems privacy settings allow Chrome access to your Video camera & Microphone devices. The first time you connect to our system, Chrome will ask for access to your devices. But if your operating system hasn’t provided Chrome with access, then you may find that you can’t see or hear your devices.

We also recommend setting these devices as your default web browser. That way links that you click will automatically open in either one of these web browsers.

Notes:

  • Depending on how your device is managed, you may also need to contact your IT Support personnel in order to have either of these browsers installed on your device.

  • Our video meeting software will not run on Internet Explorer (any version).

  • Our video meeting software is less likely to be compatible using Edge/Chromium.

Fixing connection problems

Assuming that you have a compatible device & a compatible browser, you may be required to reconnect to a video meeting, for example, if your internet drops out. If you experience issues connecting to your specialist please try some of the following:

  1. Copy & paste the meeting link into an incognito mode browser window.

  2. Refreshing the page.

  3. Pressing play on the video player.

In the event that you’re unable to reconnect to a video call, immediately call our coordinator staff on 0428 658 968. Please also email support@teledermatologist.com.au & coordinator@teledermatologist.com.au with any additional information, such as screen shots of any error messages, what you’re observing in your web browser & a summary or description of what you were doing when the issue occurred.
